What age can a child start learning to read with AI?

Most children are ready for playful pre-reading work from about age 2 to 3 — rhymes, letter sounds, picture talk and listening games. Blending letters into words usually clicks between 4 and 6. On IWAC you choose your child's class level (Nursery 1 up to Primary 6), and the lessons, missions and Masters adjust to that level, so a 3-year-old and a 9-year-old never see the same screen.

Can AI actually teach phonics, or does it just quiz my child?

Good AI reading practice does both: it teaches a sound or pattern first, then gives your child lots of short goes at using it. On IWAC every lesson has a cartoon Master who introduces the idea in kid language, then a mission where your child practises it. The AI's job is to keep the practice at the right difficulty and to explain mistakes kindly — not to replace explicit teaching.

Will AI replace my child's teacher or my own reading time?

No — and it shouldn't. AI is very good at patient repetition, instant feedback and never getting bored of the same word. It is not good at noticing that your child is tired, worried or bluffing. Think of IWAC as daily practice plus a progress record, while you and their teacher keep the reading aloud, the questions and the encouragement.

What happens to my child's voice recording when they read aloud?

This is the question to ask any reading app. On IWAC, reading-aloud practice is optional, audio is used to give feedback in the moment and is not published, sold or used for advertising. We store your child's progress (which lesson, how they did, XP earned) rather than a library of recordings, and you can delete a child profile and its data from the Parent Command Center at any time. What data do you collect about my child?

The minimum needed to run the academy: a first name, an avatar, class level and curriculum book, plus lesson progress, XP, streaks and badges. Children do not have their own email address or public profile, and there is no chat with strangers, no comments and no social feed. Only your signed-in parent account can see your children.

How do you stop the AI saying something inappropriate?

Accepted Answer

Three layers. First, children work inside lessons written and published by IWAC — they are not free-typing into an open chatbot. Second, AI-generated text (like report narratives and mission wording) is produced from tight, age-scoped instructions and filtered before it reaches a child's screen. Third, anything a parent can't see, a child can't either: everything on the Kid Home comes from your Parent Command Center's curriculum.

What parental controls do I get?

You control the child profiles (add, edit avatar, change book or class level without losing progress), the curriculum book, and what happens next through the Parent Command Center. You also get notifications when a lesson is completed or new lessons arrive, weekly AI report cards, and downloadable progress PDFs so you can check the work rather than take our word for it.

What if the AI gets a word or a sound wrong?

It can happen — AI models sometimes mishear an accent or over-correct. That's why lesson content on IWAC is authored and published by our team rather than invented live, and why progress and XP are calculated on our servers from the published lesson, not by anything the app guesses. If something looks wrong in a lesson, tell us and we fix the lesson for every child at once.

Will it understand my child's accent?

IWAC is built for African and international families, so accent tolerance matters to us more than most. Reading practice focuses on whether the sound pattern is right rather than on sounding like one narrow "correct" accent, and pronunciation feedback is encouragement, never a score your child is punished for.

How long should my child use it each day?

Accepted Answer

Short and often beats long and rare. For nursery ages, one mission of about 10 minutes is plenty; for primary ages, 15–25 minutes is a good daily target. IWAC is built around a daily streak for exactly this reason — the aim is a small win every day, not a marathon at the weekend.

Isn't this just more screen time?

It is screen time — the question is what kind. A mission is a short, finished task with a clear end, no autoplay, no infinite feed and no adverts. Many families pair it with a physical book afterwards: your child practises the sound on IWAC, then hunts for it in a real book with you.

How soon will I see my child's reading improve?

Accepted Answer

With steady daily practice most parents notice small things first — recognising letter sounds faster, guessing less, sounding more confident — within a few weeks. Bigger jumps in fluency take months, as they do with any method. Rather than promise a timeline, IWAC shows you the evidence: streaks, lessons completed, subject-by-subject progress and a weekly AI report card in the Parent Command Center.

How do I know what my child actually did?

Open the Parent Command Center. You'll see total XP, day streak, lessons completed, progress per subject, upcoming lessons, badges and certificates, plus every AI report card. You can download a progress PDF in one click, and a change history shows any edits to your child's profile.

Question 14

Can it help a child who is behind or has dyslexia?

Accepted Answer

Patient, repeatable practice at the right level helps most struggling readers, and you can set a class level that matches where your child actually is rather than their age. But IWAC is not a diagnosis or a therapy: if you suspect dyslexia or another specific difficulty, please also work with a specialist teacher or educational psychologist.

Which curriculum book should I choose?

Book 1 (African Foundation) is the core grounding, Book 2 (International Curriculum) widens into international content, and Book 3 (Elite Scholars) adds enrichment for children who want more stretch. You can change books later from the Parent Command Center and your child keeps all earned XP, streaks and badges.

Can I add more than one child?

Accepted Answer

Yes. One parent account can hold several child profiles, each with their own avatar, class level, missions and progress. Use the child switcher at the top of the Parent Command Center to move between them.

Question 17

Does it work on a phone, and on a weak connection?

Accepted Answer

IWAC is mobile-first, so a phone or tablet works well. Missions are short and light on purpose, but a live connection is needed to load lessons and save progress. If a connection drops mid-mission, finish it again when you're back online — progress is only recorded once it reaches our servers.

Question 18

Can I cancel, and what happens to my child's progress?

Accepted Answer

You can cancel at any time from your billing provider; access continues to the end of the period you've paid for. Your child's completed lessons, XP, badges and certificates stay on their profile, so if you come back later they carry on rather than restart.
