FOR PARENTS

Privacy & Safety

AI reading practice only works if you trust it. Here is exactly how IWAC handles your child's voice, what the AI is allowed to say, and the controls that stay in your hands. This is a plain explainer of how the product behaves β€” written by us, the people who run IWAC.

Voice data when your child reads aloud

Voice data when your child reads aloud

  • Reading aloud is optional. Every mission can be completed without the microphone.
  • The microphone is only live inside a reading activity your child has opened, and it stops when the activity ends.
  • Audio is used to give feedback in the moment. We keep the outcome of the practice β€” which lesson, how it went, XP earned β€” rather than building a library of recordings.
  • Your child's voice is never published, sold, or used for advertising, and it is never attached to a public profile because children don't have one.
  • Deleting a child profile from the Parent Command Center removes that child's practice data with it.
Content filtering β€” what the AI can and can't say

Content filtering β€” what the AI can and can't say

  • Children work inside lessons written and published by the IWAC team. There is no open chatbot for a child to free-type into.
  • AI-generated wording (mission text, report narratives) is produced from tight, age-scoped instructions and checked before it reaches a child's screen.
  • No adverts, no autoplay, no recommendation feed, no links out to the open web from a child's screen.
  • No messaging between users. Children cannot be contacted by anyone through IWAC.
  • If you ever see wording that feels off, tell us β€” lesson content is central, so a fix reaches every child at once.
Parental controls you actually hold

Parental controls you actually hold

  • Only your signed-in parent account can create, edit or remove child profiles.
  • You choose the curriculum book and class level, and you can change them later without losing earned XP, streaks or badges.
  • A change history records every edit to a child's profile, so nothing changes quietly.
  • Notifications tell you when a lesson is completed and when new lessons arrive.
  • Weekly AI report cards and one-click progress PDFs let you check the work rather than take our word for it.
How your family's data is protected

How your family's data is protected

  • Accounts are protected by our authentication provider; we never see or store your password.
  • Database access is enforced per-row: a parent account can only ever read its own children and their progress.
  • XP, lesson completion and certificate eligibility are calculated on our servers, so progress can't be edited from a browser.
  • Payments run through Paystack. Card details are entered on Paystack's checkout and never touch IWAC.
  • We collect the minimum a school needs: your email, a child's first name, avatar, class level, book and progress.

Good habits we recommend

  • Keep sessions short β€” one mission a day beats a long weekend session.
  • Sit nearby for the first week so your child knows you're interested in the work.
  • Finish with a real book: hunt for the sound they practised on screen.
  • Read the weekly report card together and celebrate the streak, not just the score.
